يُصدر مكتب حقوق الإنسان والديمقراطية في الخارجية الأمريكية تقريراً سنوياً يُغطي انتهاكات حقوق الإنسان في مختلف بلدان العالم. وفيما يتعلق بالجمهورية العربية السورية فقد صدر تقرير مكون من 55 صفحة، يعتمد بشكل رئيس على تقارير وبيانات المفوضية السامية لحقوق الإنسان، لجنة التحقيق الدولية المستقلة، الشبكة السورية لحقوق الإنسان، هيومان رايتس ووتش، منظمة العفو الدولية، ومصادر أخرى.
