    Total Months: 17 Syria Tracker is a crowdsourced effort began collecting reports from the country in April 2011; just a few weeks after the first protests began. The members include nine US-based Arab Americans and one US-based American. After 17 months of painstaking work, we have cataloged reports on >21,000 uprising-related deaths (in 185 places throughout the 13 provinces). Checking the recent report release here through July 21, 2012, we are currently running names on more than 84% of deaths with more than 80% include video links or pictures (many we haven’t had time to update to the site, but are in our freely available database):

  Deaths by Muhafatha (Province) by Month, March 18, 2012 thru July 21, 2012 - While Homs has sustained the largest number of victims, our prior analysis indicates that the central region of Idleb and Al Rastan (in the northern part of Hama Province) are suffering the most proportionately at nearly 1.5 per 100 persons.Damascus (the Capitol) and its suburbs have sustained a new upward trend in recent months.

  
  Of the 21,038 documented killings as of July 21, 2012, 7 percent are women and 93 percent are men. Syria Tracker has found that the women killed were significantly younger than the men—on average, about seven years younger. The average age (in years) for men is 26; for women, 19. The main causes of deaths for women in Syria is as follows: 43% Bombing, 24% Gunshot wound, 11% Shot by Sniper, 7% Slaughtered, 4% Open wounds, 3% Bombardment aviation, 2% Lack access to treatment, 2% Bomb explosion, 1% Under torture, and 3% Other (tear gas, burn, suffocation, etc.).
