*Urgent Action* * * * Syria: A mother and her daughter arbitrary arrested while participating in a peaceful gathering to condemn the Houla massacre* * * On May, 27th, 2012 Lina Mamoun Mhayneh and her daughter Nouran Algamian were arrested by a group of armed men wearing plain clothes in Altalyani Square in Damascus. The arrest occurred while the 2 women were participating in a peaceful sit-in to express their condemnation of the Massacre which happened in Houla, near Homs on May, 25th 2012 It is believed that the political security forces are the one who are responsible about the arrest as Marwa Algamian, Nouran's sister, insisted. Nouran Algamian, born in 1992, is a university student who lives in Muhajreen, Damascus she is single. Lina Mhayneh, her mother was born in 1964, she is housewife and lives also in Muhajreen, Damascus. Lina suffers from high blood Pressure, bones losses, and inflammation of the nerves. It is worth mentioning that her oldest daughter Marwa Algamian, born in 1985, was arrested twice: the first time on March 15th, 2011 for twelve days and the second time was on September 30th, 2011 and she was released on October, 6th, 2011. After that, she had to flee Syria. We are highly concerned about the psychological and physical well-being of Lina Mhayneh and her daughter Nouran Algamian who are under high risk of torture, a common practice in the detention centers of the different Syrian security apparatus including the political security branch.
