  Homs: Summary of events – Monday, October 17, 2011 As residents of Homs are used to now, they spend their night listening to the sound of bullets, rockets, and explosions. Tonight was no better, as several armored vehicles stormed Deir Balba to fire heavily and launch rockets, hitting several homes, while power was out in the neighborhood. The sounds of explosions and heavy machine guns were also heard in the neighborhoods of Al-Bayada, Al-Khaldiyeh, Baba Amro, Al-Waar, Jib Al-Jandali, Karm Al-Zeitoun, and Al-Nazeheen. The air force also roamed the skies of the city and its suburbs terrorizing the city and the northern villages. Three martyrs, who were killed yesterday in Al-Inshaat by security and Shabiha, were mourned today in Baba Amro. They are: Taher Al-Sibaai, Tamer Mando, and Gazwan Ghalioun. Their bullets did not distinguish between young and old or man and woman, even though they do not care about that anyway. As if killing and destroying were not enough, Assad forces prevented ambulances from reaching the neighborhood and the wounded. They also attacked Red Crescent envoys and carjacked some ambulances to use them to enter the neighborhood and arrest some of the wounded. The bullets and bombs started at 6 am and had not stopped most day. The number of wounded reached tens of people, most of them remained in their homes without help, some of them bleeding to death and some (more than 30) were arrested. Additionally, a number of martyrs fell, some known, and some whose names were still unconfirmed. Some of the confirmed martyrs are: Sharid Kaada, M. Abdelrahman Al-Abdah, Abdelmatlab Al-Sabbagh, Yaseen Shama, Moayed Mahrat, Omar Abdelhasib Al-Talawi, Abeer Sheikh Al-Souk, Majd Al-Hallak, Dawod Sulieman Al-Jasem, Jasem Afara. After combing the neighborhoods home-by-home, using searching for weapons as an excuse, Assad forces decided to declare a war to exterminate and destroy most neighborhoods of Homs starting from Deir Balba, through Al-Bayada, Al-Khaldiyeh, Juret Al-Shayah, Al-Inshaat, Baba Amro, Karm Al-Shami, Al-Midan, and Bab Al-Draib. The operation focused on the neighborhoods of Baba Amro, Al-Khaldiyeh, Al-Bayada, Deir Balba, Jib Al-Jandali, Karm Al-Zeitoun, and Al-Nazeheen. There were tens of wounded as a result, who were tended to in homes because it was impossible to take them to hospitals or medical centers. Some martyrs from these neighborhoods were: M. The village of Gharnata held a funeral for martyr Nizar Al-Taleb, 36 years old, who died under torture in the basements of security branches, where he was arrested about a week ago, and his body was handed over today, with clear signs of torture. The village of Abel also got its share of killing, raids, and destruction. Assad forces supported by the army surrounded the village, raided homes, and looted homes and stores, only to resume random shelling and firing in the evening from checkpoints. Assad army members are spread around the village. The residents of Al-Holeh went out in solidarity with Homs, in a massive demonstration to prove that the martyrs’ blood will not be shed in vain, and to relay to the Arab world and international community the message that their silence is killing us, and apathy is increasing the number of our victims. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA0DY8qhUa0 In defiance to all the weapons and silence of the world, residents of Homs went out demonstrating and chanting in the neighborhoods of Al-Waar, Al-Qusoor, Al-Ghouta, Al-Inshaat, Deir Balba, Al-Kaldiyeh, Al-Bayada, Al-Shammas, Baba Amro, Juret Al-Arayes, Al-Karabees, Juret Al-Shayah, Al-Mrejeh, Bab Houd, and others. Residents also demonstrated in other towns and villages around Homs, like Al-Holeh, Tadmur, Al-Qusayr, and Al-Qaryatain. Most demonstrations were attacked and fired at to be dispersed. As usual, the Assad forces fired rockets from tanks and machine gun fire in the evening in neighborhoods in which it is present, especially in Deir Balba, Al-Bayada, Karm Al-Zeitoun, Al-Naseheen (where nail bombs were used), Bab Al-Sibaa, Al-Mrejeh, Bab Al-Draib, Baba Amro, and Al-Khaldiyeh. This was amid news of many injuries. The Assad forces also opened fire in the town of Al-Qusayr, directing it at streets and buildings. But there were no reports of injuries.
